VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton University says it has set a new record for freshman applications. More than 29,000 young adults have applied for admission this fall. That beats the previous number set back in 2009.

University leaders say that graduate study applications have reached record heights as well. There were more than 3,400 graduate applications filled for the fall.

BU leaders say as more students apply to their schools, they will also increase the number of faculty. Sixty new positions will be added for the new school year.
