ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A leading member of the anti-fracking community visited the North Country on Wednesday. Julia Walsh, the founder of Frack Action, spoke to a group of Clarkson students about the issues involved with hydraulic fracturing.

Walsh brought with her a sample of water from Pennsylvania that she says was contaminated from fracking in the area.

She hopes that students in the North Country will not only get involved with the fracking movement, but choose careers that have environmental benefits. Walsh says she was glad to hear that Governor Cuomo has done his own research into the matter, and says that he needs to lead the state by continuing the ban on fracking.

"I think if he is paying attention he will take a serious step back and study this further," said Walsh.

Walsh has served on the New Paltz village board as well as a representative to the United Nations advocating for children's rights.
