DEERFIELD, N.Y. -- A young boy is in the hospital and a horse has died following a horse and buggy accident in Oneida County. Officials say it happened just before 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Town of Deerfield.
A ten-year-old boy and a twelve-year-old were driving a horse and buggy on State Route 8 when they attempted to turn left and turned into the path of a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer hit the horse and buggy, causing it to go airborne.
A twelve-year-old passenger in the buggy was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital and then transferred to Upstate University Hospital for a serious head injury.
The other boy and the driver were not injured.
