ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Instead of forking over nearly $30 million to repair leaking roofs and structural foundation issues, the Department of Transportation is pushing for a brand new facility to call its own.

The DOT was awarded a million-and-a-half dollars in bonds from Onondaga County to kick start the design project for a new facility in Clay.

Their current buildings, located in Camillus and DeWitt are outdated and not designed to meet the specific needs of the department. The Onondaga County Commissioner of Transportation says those facilities, created for UPS and housing airplanes, is not ideal.

"We've made them work for a number of years, but now we're in a situation where we can put together something that will certainly help our operations," said Brian Donnelly, Onondaga County Commissioner of Transportation.

The new buildings would be located in Clay near the corner of Morgan and Buckley roads. The total cost will come to about $17.7 million.
