OGDENSBURG, N.Y. -- Holy officials from throughout the world and here at home are reacting to the news of the Pope's resignation.
Ogdensburg Bishop Terry LaValley was appointed by the pope three years ago. He says he was extremely surprised to learn the news Monday morning, but he believes, despite the pope's brief tenure, he will leave behind a strong legacy.
"He's been a prophet for the church and for the world during turbulent times. He challenges us to live our faith authentically and then to joyfully express it and give witness to it," Bishop LaValley said.
