Hospital warns of possible infections

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Guthrie Corning Hospital is alerting patients to a possible health risk that certain people may have been exposed to.

The hospital says a former nurse did not follow proper infection control when administering single use saline IV flushes. Although the risk of possible infections is considered low, officials have asked the more than 200 patients who received the flush to seek precautionary testing through the hospital, free of charge. Those individuals all should have received informational packets. If you didn't receive one then you weren't affected.

Patients who receive a letter are asked to call a special toll-free number, 1-855-316-7944, to set up an appointment.
