BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- The public had a chance to weigh in Wednesday night on a proposal to merge the Lysander and Baldwinsville Fire Districts. People packed the Baldwinsville Fire Department, as they learned more about plans to allow the Lysander Fire District to expand to cover both departments.

One change homeowners will see is in the tax rate, which will fluctuate slightly depending on where you live. Then the meeting was open for questions, where it became heated at times between residents.

However, during the public comment session, everyone who spoke was in favor of the plan.

Fran Bishop said, "It will be a faster response. They will have more security financially because there won't be contracts they'd have to take to the towns. It would just be a benefit for everyone."

The Van Buren town board decided not to vote Wednesday due to the number of questions raised. Their vote is expected to take place next Tuesday, February 5th at 7:30 p.m. The Lysander Town Board is expected to vote on the merger Tuesday February 11th at 7 p.m.
