UNITED STATES -- The Boy Scouts of America may be changing its stance on gay members. Leaders will discuss the issue in a board meeting next week.

The announcement comes just six months after the organization reaffirmed its policy of banning gay members. The Boy Scouts are considering giving the sponsors, be it civic or religious groups, the right to decide how to address the issue.

While the issue has been a topic of discussion for a while, leaders within the organization say they're focusing on the Boy Scout's mission. Numerous petition campaigns over the issue prompted corporations to suspend their donations to the organization.

Even the Boy Scouts' honorary president, President Obama, says he opposes the ban.
