Man arrested for robbery and bomb scare

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A 20-year-old Binghamton man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a jewelry store last Friday.

Officials believe Ty Tumminia entered Ruby and Son Jewelers in the Town of Chenango and displayed what appeared to be bomb. They say he then ordered the employees to empty a display cabinet.

Deputies say the Endicott Police Bomb Squad was called in and found the alleged bomb a short distance away from the store. It was determined to be a non-working bomb.

Tumminia was taken into custody Monday in the Town of Dickinson and is charged with two felonies, robbery and placing a false bomb. He was arraigned and sent to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.
