PAINTED POST, N.Y. -- A community vote will determine the future of the Village of Painted Post. Residents will vote for or against the dissolution of the village at the polls Thursday.

A group of residents who are in favor of the idea say dissolving into the Town of Erwin would save property owners money.

But elected officials for the village disagree. Mayor Roswell Crozier says if residents vote in favor of the dissolution, it will have a negative impact on village services and will not be saving residents any money.

If villagers vote no on Thursday, they will have to wait four more years for it to be voted on a second time.

If they vote yes, the village will have to prepare a dissolution plan and hold public hearings before it would take effect December 31st of 2014.
