Siena releases poll on Cuomo and NY gun control law
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- A new poll shows New Yorkers overwhelmingly support the state's new gun control law.

Almost three quarters of New Yorkers support an assault weapons ban and seven-bullet limit to a high-capacity magazine, according to the poll from the Siena Research Institute. Those are the two main tenants of the law Governor Cuomo signed Tuesday.

Cuomo himself is still riding a high of 71 percent favorability with voters.

Siena also polled voters on gun provisions not yet enacted into law. New Yorkers are almost evenly divided on whether to have armed guards at schools. The poll shows 52 percent support the idea while 46 oppose it.
