BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- An inmate at the Broome County Sheriff's Correctional Facility was arrested for possessing heroin.

Authorities say Scott Merritt was in the correctional facility on a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment. While Merritt was changing over to jail issued clothing, it was discovered that he was in possession of seven wax paper packages containing heroin.

He was arrested and arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court and remanded to Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility without bail.
