ALBANY, N.Y. -- Of all the things Governor Andrew Cuomo touched on in his third State of the State address, one thing was noticeably absent.

Since taking office, Cuomo has tip-toed around the issue of hydrofracking in New York State and did so once again Wednesday.

While both advocates and those opposed rallied at the Capitol, there was no mention of a plan for the controversial gas extraction method.

The debate has raged for several years now with many saying it is time to move forward with drilling, which would help boost the state economy.

Others believe there are still too many unanswered questions about potential health and safety risks fracking would cause.

For local representatives, one thing is certain: That debate will continue.

"In all honesty, the process has been in place and going on for a number of years, and we all know it'll probably go on for a bit longer," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

Cuomo did express his intentions for a clean energy economy in New York State during his address, but fracking was not part of that plan.
