Snow beginning to fall in the Southern Tier

We continue to track a large winter storm barreling into the region. The snow has already started falling in some parts of the area. Our Katie Husband joined us from the Corning newsroom with more.

CORNING, N.Y. -- If you look out the window in the Twin Tiers, you will see a winter wonderland. And the white snow will be seen statewide pretty soon.

The snow started to fall in Corning just after 2 p.m. Wednesday when the Winter Storm Warning went into effect for the area. It started out as flurries, but it didn't take long for it to start snowing heavily.

Our reporter went out earlier and as you can see it was a steady but heavy snowfall on Pultney Street in Corning. The roads are already covered with about an inch of snow. But road crews are out and about. Our reporter saw two trucks earlier sanding and salting the roadways.

Traffic was moving cautiously slow, which is reassuring, especially when the snow sticks this quick to the roads.

Visibility is decreasing and, of course, will continue to go down as it gets darker.

It’s been a while since we've seen a large storm like this, so remember to take proper precautions. You want to make sure to drive slow if you're driving through the area.
