SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Christmas was a little merrier for thousands in Syracuse, thanks to a 125-year-old tradition.

The city's Rescue Mission hosted its annual Christmas Dinner Tuesday. Turkey, ham and stuffing were all on the menu. Close to 2,100 meals were expected to be served both at the mission and through community deliveries to those in need.

Some who stopped by say the dinner made a big impact on their holiday season.

"It means a lot to me because it's a time of giving and you don't have too many people out there who like to give. And to people in a situation like I might be or others, it's like, wow. At least there's somebody who cares," said Jose Morales, one of those in attendance.

Tuesday's dinner was made possible through food donations to the Rescue Mission. Officials say the mission is behind on its financial donations, but is serving more people than ever.
