ITHACA, N.Y. -- There will be a new discrimination trial for the City of Ithaca according to Mayor Svante Myrick's Facebook page. Leaders could have been forced to fork over $2 million to police officer Chris Miller.

According to the Facebook post, federal judge Thomas McAvoy vacated the verdict for being patently excessive. The mayor believes the city will win with a new trial.

Miller claims the police department passed him over for promotions because he is white, and that leaders retaliated against him after he filed complaints with the Human Rights Division. He originally sued for $19 million.
