SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse and West Virginia have played for the Schwartzwalder Trophy since 1993 but will not be putting it on the line for their matchup in the Pinstripe Bowl, a move that has angered some fans but not SU head coach Doug Marrone.

In an exclusive interview with Time Warner Cable SportsChannel that will air as part of a bowl preview special on Christmas night, Marrone said he has heard from some outraged fans who want the trophy, named for the late and legendary SU head coach and West Virginia graduate Ben Schwartzwalder, to be a part of the game between the former Big East rivals. But Marrone says this matchup is about the Pinstripe Bowl and the Steinbrenner Trophy that will be awarded to the winner and the schools wanted to make sure that was the focus.

The Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium will kick off Saturday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. on ESPN. YNN's coverage in New York City will begin Wednesday, Dec. 26.
