BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Doctors, nurses and staff at Lourdes Hospital are used to helping people on a daily basis, but Wednesday they gave back outside the hospital's walls.

Each year, families in need throughout Broome and Tioga counties are adopted by employees at Lourdes. Staff at the hospital passed out gifts, food and gift cards Wednesday.

More than 350 adults and children will benefit from the donations and the presents aren't just chosen at random. Social workers from Lourdes meet with families in the fall to find out exactly what they want.

"We ask for sizes, we do ask for their favorite color or their favorite musician, we ask the kids what their favorite toy might be, or whatever, so there can be a surprise from Santa," said Ann Lomonaco, Lourdes Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Lourdes will continue to distribute gifts as part of the annual donation drive Thursday.
