ROME, N.Y. -- A woman driving the wrong way on Route 49 in Oneida County caused a crash that ends with two people hurt. State police say a 56-year-old woman got onto Route 49 Eastbound going the wrong way around 10 a.m.

One driver had to swerve into a guard rail to avoid her. She then hit another car, injuring a man's leg.

Police say the driver going the wrong way has serious internal and external injuries. They still aren't sure why she was going the wrong way.

"It's too early to say if she's suffering from any medical condition, but I think it would be fair to say she was definitely disoriented. Why would she be traveling the wrong way?" asked NYSP Captain Francis Coots.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Police say they don't know the full extent of her injuries.
