ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- At the beginning of this month, their shelves were bare. But now the Franciscan Church of the Assumption is getting some extra help and it's by the busload!
A group of Assumption parishioners tried to stuff a bus full of donations this weekend to help stock Assumption's shelves. Most people brought a few bags, but there were a few full car loads.
The group organizing the collection says they couldn't help but do something after hearing about the food pantry's great need.
“We, as a community, need to come together. We've got a lot of hungry people out there and with the economy being the way it is, it's not going to get any better, so we need to help,” said Linda Stephan.
The group says they'll continue to take donations at GC2 Gymnastics in East Syracuse if people can't take their donations directly to the pantry.
