JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The off-duty Syracuse Police officer who was injured last year during a high speed chase in Jefferson County is suing three villages, their police departments and the Glen Park Police Chief.

Autumn Tharrett was a passenger in the vehicle at the corners of Routes 12 and 342 in the Town of Pamelia when her car was hit by another vehicle driven by Francis "Terry" Morgia. Morgia had just robbed a woman at the Kohl's department store in Watertown and had driven away.

Glen Park Police Chief Larry Jobson saw Morgia's car and tried to pull it over and that's when the chase began. Speeds reached 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended when Morgia's car hit the vehicle Autumn Tharrett was in.

Shirley Hammond, 75, died in the crash and Tharrett claims to have suffered a traumatic brain injury, memory loss and paralysis of her forehead and eyebrows.

In her lawsuit, Tharrett claims Jobson was reckless in the chase, saying it wasn't necessary and that it was also in violation of police pursuit policies. She also says the villages of Brownville, Glen Park and Dexter and their police departments didn't have proper written policies in place.

Morgia pleaded guilty to numerous charges and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
