ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Flu cases in Oneida County continue to rise exponentially. Health Department officials say the numbers they are seeing are unusual.

There are currently nearly a thousand cases across the county. Over the past week, there has been an average of about 50 to 70 new flu cases per day.

During last year's flu season, the county average was 329 cases through April. That means they are already seeing three times as many cases with the season just beginning.

The good news is that the vaccine is still available and is a good match for the strain. It takes about two weeks for the shot to protect your system.
