SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Earlier this week, we told you about a local food bank whose shelves were nearly bare. Well donations have picked up for the Franciscan Church of the Assumption in Syracuse and Wednesday, they received a major donation.
Car dealer Billy Fuccillo donated $50,000 to the north side pantry. Fuccillo is also asking the public to match his donation, something the pantry director says could amount to the entire year's operating budget.
For now, he says even with the donation, there is still an immediate need for food to be donated.
"Our shelves look like they’re filled to the top. Unfortunately, this amount of food, for the amount of families we see on a daily basis, this is probably not much more than five or six days worth of food that will be given away immediately," said Brother Nicholas Spano.
The pantry helps feed more than 400 needy families.
