UNION, N.Y. -- The Town of Union has good news from FEMA. Officials announced Wednesday that FEMA plans to fund the town’s buyout of 176 properties relating to last year's floods.
The town submitted its letter of intent to FEMA earlier this spring to buyout structures in the 100 year old flood plain that were severely damaged by Tropical Storm Lee.
The town now has a public comment period of 15 days where community members are encouraged to add their input.
The 176 structures will be demolished and the property maintained as open space.
