HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- One person has died after being hit by a car in Herkimer County. It happened Tuesday on State Route 28 in the Town of Columbia.

State Police say a woman was driving southbound when George Hotaling, 49, drove his motorized wheelchair into the roadway. The woman says she was unable to avoid Hotaling and hit the wheelchair, causing him to be ejected.

Hotaling was airlifted to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
