BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The woman convicted of beating her two-year-old son to death is still awaiting sentencing.

Veronica Taft was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday on a conviction of second degree murder, manslaughter in the first degree and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Her two-year old son, Lyric Taft, was found beaten and unresponsive at his Binghamton home in December 2010.

Taft appeared in court Thursday, but her attorney filed an adjournment to postpone her sentencing. The defense says that new information has come to light and he wants additional time for investigation.

A pre-sentencing conference has been scheduled for January 2nd.

Taft is facing a maximum sentence of 25 years to life and minimum sentence of 18 years to life. She will be eligible for appeal after the sentencing.
