BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The former BU basketball player from Serbia convicted of beating a fellow student into a coma is getting out of prison early. Miladin Kovacevic was serving a two year sentence in Serbia for his attack on Bryan Steinhauer in a 2008 bar fight.

Kovacevic was released two months early as part of a government amnesty including more than a thousand prisoners sentenced for lesser crimes.

You may recall, following the attack, he jumped bail here in the US and fled to Serbia, which refused to extradite him. The Serbian government eventually tried him and paid $900,000 to Steinhauer's family.
