Families and friends who are still celebrating thanks after Thanksgiving visited the fourth annual Day of Sharing in Oswego County. The Toys for Tots event is to benefit the United States Marine Corps and to make sure every kid has a present on Christmas Day. Carmella Mataloni has more.

OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- It was a day filled with holiday cheer as hundreds of families celebrated the gift of giving. Presents were lined up for the fourth annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Planning for the event began in September, with agencies from all over Oswego County coming up with ways to make sure every child has something to open on Christmas Day.

“I don’t think any child should be without a toy, without a Christmas. There are a lot of kids in this community that need a toy or just to have something to look forward to Christmas morning and this is the perfect vehicle to get their Christmas presents under the tree,” said Chris Jones, Oswego County Toys for Tots Coordinator.

Coordinators say that this is the most successful event they have seen over the past four years and just today, are expected to collect over 900 toys.

Children who donated a toy got their picture taken with Santa, made arts and crafts, listened to Christmas music and had a bite to eat while enjoying each other’s company.

Marine Staff Sergeant Robert Corona says this event gives children who are less fortunate something to look forward to.

“It’s important because it’s something to help inspire kids. They might be down in the slumps because they don’t have stuff that other kids have. But it’s to show hey, you might not have everything or you family doesn’t have anything, people still think about you. You’re still in people’s minds and hearts,” said Staff Sergeant Roberto Corona.

All of the toys will be donated to children in Oswego County. They should be delivered by December 22nd.
