There weren't any classes on the holiday, but Binghamton High School was packed with thousands of students and community members. People were enjoying the school's annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner. Our Melissa Kakareka takes a closer look at this year's festivities.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Turkey. Corn. Mashed Potatoes. All that and more was on the menu at Binghamton High School Thursday.

"On a scale of one to ten, the food is a ten," said Binghamton resident Christine Johnson.

It's the 18th year that Binghamton High School has hosted a Community Dinner on Thanksgiving. Student volunteers helped feed more than 2,000 people in the community. Some didn't have any other place to go for the holiday.

"All of my friends are out of town and I had to have someplace to go. I came last year and really liked it so I invited a friend who also didn't have a place to go and we came to enjoy it together," said Johnson.

It's an experience that both the students and the public enjoy.

"It's very busy but it's also showing everyone working together. And I know everyone really enjoys getting to know the students of Binghamton High School," said Binghamton High School junior Kathryn Dura.

And the dinner is an example of the meaning of Thanksgiving.

"People don't get what it is about. It's not just about the food. It's about giving back to the community and that is demonstrated here," said Binghamton High School junior Kiley Kingma.

Making sure that everyone gets a taste of the holiday spirit this Thanksgiving.

BHS did away with its meal take-out service this year but expanded the dining area and organized shuttles to bring neighbors to the school.
