WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- People in the North Country did their part to help local children. Families and friends took part in a March of Dimes charity walk that helps fund important research.

More than a dozen families walked six laps around the Salmon Run Mall wearing purple shirts. The March for Babies brings attention to Prematurity Awareness Month and helps support the March of Dimes.

The organization says events like this show a commitment to helping children.

“It helps to raise awareness. As I mentioned, it also helps to create a network for moms so they can support one another and learn more about what we can do to help one another out,” said Central New York Division Director for March of Dimes Hanni Kmetz.
