ROME, N.Y. -- Rome Police are investigating the assault and robbery of a local store owner. They say it happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 500 block of West Thomas Street and that the owner of "Bill's Variety" had just closed the store and was getting into his car when two masked men attacked him and stole a purse from the car.

Neither the owner or his wife, who was in the car at the time, were hurt in the attack.

The suspects are described as wearing Halloween type masks and dark clothing. They were last seen running on Ashland Avenue from West Thomas Street.
