State Police say Mark Knapp, 55, of Utica and Beverly Clary, 70, were walking along the shoulder of State Route 12 in the town of Kirkland Sunday when a car drove off the road and hit them. Knapp died from his injuries while Clary remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the car was not hurt.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the crash remains under investigation.
