SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More than 20 dogs are looking for a new home in Central New York. The canines were rescued from Alabama shelters that were going to put them down.

Helping Hounds in Syracuse will now try to find new homes for all the pups. Volunteers say its important to help animals, no matter where they come from.

"The southern shelters are just so overwhelmed with dogs. The euthanasia rate is just so sad. We get the lists everyday, the mommas, the babies, the entire litter being put down. The volunteers down there are dog lovers they are desperate to get these dogs out the door," says Tracy Romano with Helping Hounds.

YNN will take a closer look at the dogs rescued by Helping Hounds on this week's Pet Pointers with Lisa Chelenza.
