SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It was a celebration at City Hall in Syracuse, marking the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Mayor Stephanie Miner was among those praising the sacrifice of Marines since the early days of the republic, and that the people of Syracuse honor their work.

“The sacrifices that you have made and are making, and believes fully in the fact that we enjoy our freedoms because of the things that you have done in the past and, those of you who are in active service, continue to do,” said Mayor Miner.

The Marine Corps remains a very active part of the nation's Armed Forces, taking part in virtually every conflict around the world. Marines are also taking part in current relief efforts, here at home, for victims of superstorm Sandy.
