SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the 63rd year in a row, politicians set aside their attacks on one another and their volunteers joined together for a friendly gathering at Our Lady of Pompei in Syracuse.
It's tradition for candidates to come and sample the spaghetti offered at the fundraiser for the Cathedral School at Pompei. It's also tradition for the gathering to be a positive moment in a sometimes contentious campaign season.
“Both political parties are here, trying to keep the peace. And you can't fight over spaghetti. Unless you're family,” said Father Daniel Caruso.
Caruso says the annual luncheon also helps draw support for the ongoing mission of the school to educate a mostly immigrant population on the city's north side.
