VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton University has made some changes to parking on its campus. The university is replacing some of its traditional parking meters in favor of new solar powered meters.
The new meters improve customer service by allowing drivers to pay for as much time as they need without limits. They also expand payment options to include cash, coins or debit cards.
Officials say the meters are also environmentally friendly.
"It's self-sufficient. It’s just located in a space, there's no external energy to it besides the sun and the solar collector battery inside," said Daniel Chambers, Deputy Chief of University Police.
The new system serves about 68 spaces on the campus.
