ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Central New York SPCA kicked off its "Captains Against Cruelty Campaign" Monday.
Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney was on hand to launch the campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness about animal cruelty.
In 2011, the Central New York SPCA investigated more than 1,600 animal cruelty calls and seized more than 400 animals in Onondaga County.
All the money raised during the Captains Against Cruelty Campaign will go toward fighting the battle against animal abuse and every little bit helps.
"It's a way for everybody to participate because we're asking Captains Against Cruelty to talk to their own family and friends. To take donations no matter how small because as a community, when we all come together, we can make an impact," Mahoney said.
