BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A new initiative in Binghamton looks to the community to help plan out long-term goals for the city.
It's called “Blueprint Binghamton: Forward Together.” The 18 month planning initiative will allow citizens to express their visions for a healthier and more prosperous Binghamton. Those ideas will be used to construct a new Comprehensive Plan.
The project will have its own office, but leaders also plan on hitting the streets to talk to people.
"It's about us opening the doors and going out to the neighborhoods and finding out exactly what residents want to see for their children and grandchildren down the road," said Tarik Abdelazim, Director of Planning, Housing and Community Development.
A grand opening of the dedicated studio is being held Friday afternoon at 49 Court Street.
The initiative is made possible by a half a million dollar HUD grant. Binghamton was the only city in the state to receive it.
