Travel Booking Apps

Some of the name brands are recognizable and some are not, but there are a lot of recently unveiled or recently updated apps for booking last-minute travel. Some well-established businesses are only just now releasing an app, like Hotwire.

For years, people could go online to Hotwire, choose a location and a date and have the website show prices, star ratings and amenities, but no specific names until they seal the deal and commit with a credit card number. Now, the Hotwire app works in pretty much exactly the same way.

Some goes for Priceline, it too now offers a fast and simple way to, just like on the website, book last-minute flights, hotels and rental cars all from a mobile device.

Two others that are lesser known and are for hotels only, often times featuring higher-end properties, are HotelTonight and JetSetter. Both apps have users wait until around noon in the time zone where the hotel is, so that hotels can make a last-ditch effort to offer a real deal and occupy rooms they are highly unlikely to sell at normal prices that day.

The Hotwire and JetSetter apps are iOS only, Priceline and HotelTonight are on both Android and iOS devices and all these apps are free.

Central Park App

Whether you're traveling to the Big Apple or a local, the Central Park Conservancy's updated official Central Park app tells you pretty much anything and everything you'd every want or need to know about every one of the 843 acres.

Users can find out, thanks to GPS, about every attraction, area and historically significant location they are standing by within the park, illustrated with pictures. They can also search for places or events and there is a calendar in there that lists shows, plays and other events taking place in the park.

The app, which is for iOS and Android devices, used to cost $1.99 but is now free.
